About This Spot

El Maguey #4 sits quietly tucked along Andrews Road in Murphy, welcoming those who crave a genuine, homey Mexican dining experience. The moment you arrive, there’s an easygoing vibe—familiar and unpretentious, a place where service feels personal and the focus is straightforward: good food shared simply. It’s the kind of spot where the chatter hums gently around you, where the pace invites lingering over a meal without rush or fuss.

Inside, the atmosphere is relaxed, people come for comfort more than flair. Beyond the warm, hearty plates, there’s the subtle everyday charm of a small Mexican grocery adjoining the restaurant — a reminder that this is a place rooted in community and tradition. The scent of fresh-cut meats grilling, mingling with the faint spiced aroma of chorizo and garlic, speaks to recipes loved and carefully tended over time.

At El Maguey, dishes land on your table with a sense of ease and satisfaction rather than ceremony. Whether it’s the inviting sizzle of steak fajitas or the hearty simplicity of enchiladas with rice and beans, there’s a balance between bold flavors and comforting familiarity. The fresh guacamole and vibrant salsas bring their own brightness, enhanced by the unexpected delight of tender shrimp cooked just right, or the playfulness of a perfectly toasted quesadilla.

Drinks carry a hint of celebration without overwhelming — think a chilled strawberry margarita with a touch of Tajín or the familiar comfort of root beer alongside. The chips here are not your everyday tortilla chips; they arrive warm and crispy, somehow airy, inviting you to savor every bite without hurry.

This isn’t a place chasing trends, but one quietly confident in its character. El Maguey #4 offers a window into everyday Mexican flavors, gently seasoned with local warmth and good value. It’s where you return when hunger calls for something honest, satisfying, and just a little bit like home.

What a great value! We both had the lunch fajitas with water for less than $30 with taxes and tip. The atmosphere leaves much to be desired, but the food and service is great. There is also a small Mexican grocery store attached to it. If you're hungry and want tasty Mexican at a good value, try them out.

I've never cared much for Mexican food, but we've been back now 3 times and I'm actually excited to try more more menu items!!! Who knew Chili Rellanos was so delish??!! There is also a small Mexican grocery store attached. They sell meats and some of the best rolls I've had since we moved to the south almost 20yrs ago! Go give them a try!

Delicious nachos! The special flour chips are worth the trip. They are fried up, served still hot and when you bite....it's crispy but fluffyish somehow. It's not like normal tortilla chips. They're like crispy pita bread like but ....idk, go try them. You will see what I'm talking about.

The food is delicious and the staff is very pleasant. I bought the small fajitas nachos with pineapple, very tasty. It is a good size portion, could share with 2 people. I had plenty of leftovers.

This place is good. Service was speedy from the moment we walked in the door. I started with a frozen strawberry and mango margarita with Tajin on the room. Fruity, sweet and not too strong. Chips and salsa are good as well as the Guacamole. The salsa bar with peppers, onions and other goodies is a nice touch. I had the steak, with onions and chorizo. It served with a fajita set up. This was really good! There's a female bartender there that speaks good English and is really sweet. Good place, good restaurant!
